  • Booked return ticket exactly after 180 days - any suggestions?

I have booked return ticket on the 180th day from the date of arrival. I am not sure if the rule is 6months or 180 days. She has not arrived in US yet. Preponing her return ticket is an option, but it costs good amount of money. Is there any way to work-around this situation? Is it possible for her to request immigration to give her couple of days extra on her 1-94 when she arrives?

    Thanks!

6 Months on B2 is not the rule rather its the norm. But if the Visa Oficer at the POE feels that 6 Months is not justified he/she can give an I-94 with lesser validity than 6 Months too. Though one can request for 6 Months but never know whether the Visa Officer might take the request in a positive or negative way.

This is my opinion not legal advice.

She needs to return before I-94 expires otherwise you can apply for visa extension.
No legal advice. Use at your own risk.

Even assuming full 6 months stay is granted, it is always better to leave USA atleast 10 days to 15 days before the expiry of I 94 date. No one will know about a natural calamity like cyclone, volcano enroute etc. One gets stuck in USA till such time normalacy restored. If by chance one stays beyond the I 94 date, then the visa becomes void. Why take a chance?
