  • Visa for my Sister's Family

My husband is in H1. I want my sister's family to visit us next summer ‘2006.

My brother-in-law (BIL) is 33yrs and is a managing a Unit in Textile business. My sister is 30 yrs old and their son is 6yrs old. They are planning to come during his annual vacation in April, May, and June 2006. My BIL can come only for 15 days because of he has to go back to his work, but my sister & her kid is ready to stay for 2 months.

    1. Are there chances for their visa to be rejected as they both are young?

    2. His textile business company has clients in US where we live. Will it be easy to get visa if they apply B1 (Business) visa or B2 (pleasure) visa?

    3. Can we just apply for B2, and tell them that he has to come back to take care of his business and their son has to go to school after his summer holidays?

    4. Which one do you suggest? I definitely don't want their visa to get rejected as they finally agreed to visit.

5.Which is appointment date is advisable? 2 or 3 months earlier to their date of travel or just a month before their travel?

Thanks a lot. Sorry that i asked too many questions. It’s all out of excitement.

Let them NOT apply for a visit together. A young family going all at one time
is suspect to stay back even if you do not have any such intentions.

Strong business apps are less likely to be refused than casual visit apps.
So if your BIL has clients in US, it would be adivisable to let him apply alone
for a B1 and make a short visit in 2005.

In 2006,, your sister and son can apply for a visitor visa about a month before the planned visit. Let her mention that she is going
for a visit during her son's vacation and also let her show evidence of your BIL's last visit to US. If your BIL gets a long term visa in 2005,
he can join them later in 2006.

      Hi Sujatha,
The Americans view tourism to be something that the whole family should do together. So the whole family can apply for a B2 or if your B-I-L manages to get invite letters from business associates, then he should go on B1 and the others can go on B2. Whatever the case is, the family should go together for the Visa interview. The chances of getting a visa that way are much higher. I think you should slot for an interview just about a month before u intend to travel.

In either cases, social and other ties to India to show their intent to return after the visit will play an important role.
