  • My Mom Got Her Visa In 4th Attempt

FIIIIINALLLLLY .... my mom got her Visa !!!

Today early morn was her interview at the consulate....and I just came to know tht the visa was issued. I donot know if its a 10 yr Multiple or otherwise...but I dont really care. She got a visa, she can come visit us once..and thts all tht matters for now.

The only thing I changed on her file this time...was the letter to the consulate and bank balance. I think perhaps both of these were the key.

I feel like screaming with joy looking back at the pain n turmoil I went thru on her previous interviews.

For all those of u who have had to endure visa refusals...dont' give up. Keep trying as much as u can...and try and give a break between ur attempts.

    Good luck !!!

    Congratulations!!
Yeah I know how much pain it will be to send them again and again for the interview.

Can you tell where did your Mom atteneded for interview??Is it at Chennai Consulate?

Also can you tell how much gap did you take between all these 4 attempts?

My MIL's visa was rejected twice so far, so just wondering is it good to wait for some 6 months or 3 months is ok.

Can you please tell what are the key points in your letter to consulate?

It was at the Chennai consulate. Her first interview was in Feb, second and third both in March. Fourth ofcourse was in August...giving a four month break. I had a baby in April and hence was kind of sending her as many times as we can in desperation. I think that was wrong. We shud have waited for atleast a couple of months before reapplying.

I highlighted the point this time tht she is a typical indian housewife who has never been out of the house in 30 long yrs...which is sooo true in my mom's case...and tht I would like her to see this part of the world when she is in good health and energy. I kind of also added that she cannot converse in any other language but telugu and that the family household practically doesnot run without her help. My father who stayed back sort of acted like a major home tie.

Also this time...I had showed a cash balance of $22000 at the bank. Infact I was sooo sick n tired of the whole thing..tht I forgot sending an updated I 134. The same old one was produced but I think usually it holds good for about 3 yrs of their visit to states. I just asked my mom to take permission and call me if they needed any more paper work. Well in most of the cases they hardly bother to go thru the file ( for some mysterious reasons ).

I have no idea wht they asked or wht she replied. I wil know once she is back from in hyd.

I think the fact that it is soon winter now has kind of relaxed the visa issuance at the consulates. Chennai last yr issued 20000 more visas than they were supposed to I believe..and hence kind of was cutting down on most during the peak months this summer. Ppl gng to the consulate now shud be finding it relatively way easier in securing visas.

Good luck and I would say ..just keep trying !

          Hi Divyasri,

          Thanks for your response.
My Mom is attending for interview on 11th .Already they rejected my parents visa once on 214(b). So this time i am sending her alone and will see how it works.

          Thanks,

            letter to the consulate ?

            hi

quick question. when you say letter to the consulate, you mean a letter emailed to them before hand or it was carried by your mother and shown to the officer.

if you sent it to the consulate, pls let us know the email address and if possible the generic format .

            thanks

The letter as in the one tht my mom carried on hand. The key point also was me asking my mom to ask permission to talk for 2 min before the interview starts. Ask permission directly at the interview counter...as soon as she meets the person who is supposed to interview her. In my mom's case it was a guy & he said ok go on I believe. Then my mom requested that he go thru all the documents she has...and ask her all the qns he has in mind...plus also give her time if he needed more documents so that she could call me and get those....but...not to reject a visa for no reason.

The interview was for 15 min. All the paperwork was seen....too many cross-qns were asked I believe....and quite a many laughs from the interviewer end and then the visa was issued. She got a 5 yr multiple entry visa.

I will post the interview synopsis in another thread so that it can be useful to others.

                    fourth refuasal for my parents

This is fourth time that my parents applied for visit visa. The applied twice in 1998, then in 2004 and now they had interview today but every time same lam excuse i.e. clause 214b. I do not know how could they figured it out without looking at the documents. I even wrote a letter to my senator, but it did not help. Visa officer asked my father one stupid question "Have you ever been to western country?" and my father answered no, she replied, sorry we can not issue you the visa.
I am wondering what’s the relation between this question and issuing a visa. I am really very upset and do not know what to do.

                      Surprised !!!!!!!!!

First off CONGRATS on her visa.

                      1. I have heard that most of the times the officers are arrogant, that they ask applicants to speak only when spoken to and asked of something.

                      2. Cell Phones are absolutely forbidden, let alone switched on or used.

                      3. Most of the officers don't even take a look at the file, they look at the applicants, thanks to the new methods after those B@ST@RDS KILLED 09/11.

                      4. Supporting DOCs are not the PRIMARY CAUSE of rejection.

SUMMARIZED officers look for behavior/attitude/reactions and then look at DOCS.
