  • If B2 renewal is denied, does that invalidate existing B2?

My parents have an existing 10 year B2 that expires in 4th week of June (only 2months left). Does it make sense to apply for renewal of B2 or travel using the existing one and count on immigration officer at port of entry letting them stay 6 months (which would be beyond the B2 expiration date)?
If we decide to apply for new B2, and if that is denied...would it void the existing B2?

    Thanks a lot!

*If they deny a new one , they may cancel the first one as well.

    * It does not matter if the granted stay goes beyond the Visa expiry date.
One can travel on the last date of the visa and can still be given 6 months stay.

    * in your parents' situation , a lot depends on their last travel to US.If it was long time ago,
they can easily get a 6 month stay.
Also, when applying for a renewal, they look at your history of travel. If they travel too
frequently , staying 6 mos or more(extension) everytime, they can deny just on that.

Thank you for the reply. Last time they traveled to US was 18 months ago. They haven't overstayed ever and have visited US 3 times in 10 years.
If we don't apply for a new B2, I am hoping the immigration officer at port of entry will give them at least a couple of months. Any advice or experience is highly appreciated. Thanks a lot.

They will get 3 months for sure, and very likely 6 months because their last travel was 18 mos back.

ANd you never know with renewals these days, they can deny on any whim especially for pleasure visits.

Why dont they just do an interview waiver program Dropbox submission. They are eligible if they are applying for the same visa category.
