Visitor visa extension and flight tickets, Need advice

Hi,

I have put in an application to extend visitor visa for my mother using ELIS (online application) on March 31, 2013. My mothers I94 is set to expire in June 12, 2013 but she has flight tickets booked for May 24, 2013. I did not get any response as yet from USCIS.

Since the flight tickets are valid only for 2 more weeks, I am confused if I should go a head and put in a date change for flight tickets or if I should hold on. Any suggestions please?

Ext responses take several weeks ;it can come before june 12 or after, no one can tell.

Wait till May 20th or so, if the response has not come till then, change the date to June 10th or so.
If the response still does not come, she should leave before her I-94 expires.

The reason is ;

One is legal till the response comes , even if it is past the date on I-94.
If it is an approval, fine. But if it is a denial and you are past your I-94 you are out of status immediately,
and there can be possible complications on future visits.

There was a recent post where an Indian mother was stopped at hyderabad airport departing for US because the stamps in her passport
showed a stay of more than 6 months and she could not show any extension approval of denial papers.
