  • Can we stay longer than 6 months on Visitor visa on Medical grounds?

    Greetings!

My mom has 10 year multiple entry visitor visa for USA. She has come here in February 2013 and was planning to stay until July 2013 ( 5 months) as her I-94 was approved for 6 months. However, I have been diagnosed with a chronic disease and need to go through a long term treatment. For that, I need to have my mom with me and her support will help me to get through it.

Is there any way we can extend her stay for another 6 months or year? If yes, what is the process for that? Some forums have mentioned that it is possible but I am not sure what will be the process for it?

Thanks in advance for your help!

File an I-539 . You can do it online. Go to USCIS website.

She can get another extension for 6 months. But it is not guaranteed. You should apply now,
so the response comes before her I-94 expires. It can take 2 months for the response to arrive.

One extension does not hurt. But remember that extension on each visit and too frequent visits and too long stays can hurt her
application of B1/B2 renewal when it expires.
