Senior Help me please

Respected all Senior & Reader.

My question is : i have a plan to go to us for vacation and book my hotel. but my 1 friend wants to give me invitation letter to come and visit me (He is in different state and far away from where i want to book my hotel. in this case what will be better for me to book hotel and put my friend name just for reference in Ds-160 or get invitation letter from him and visit him . what will be better for visa ? I will be self sponsor in both cases.

Mentioning your friend will be no extra advantage ,on the other hand, it can be counterproductive.
Usually ' visiting a friend' is a construed as a frivolous purpose with a hidden agenda ( intent to stay back in US).


Just apply as a pure tourist without mentioning the friend.
