  • 10 year visa, 2nd vist : Is a return ticket needed while entering? And insurance?

My parents had visited us in 2006/07; Now, my dad has passed away, and my mom, 73 years old, will be visiting for 4 or 5 months.

I have booked air-tickets my mom to arrive in June-end, accompanied by a friend returning from vacation. I have not booked return tickets for her as I'm hoping to find somebody traveling back to Mumbai in Oct/Nov and will book on the same flight, or I will go with her just to drop her off.

This means she will arrive in June without a return ticket. I am thinking of sending her a letter stating my intention of getting her a return ticket depending on the above conditions. Will that suffice for the port of entry, as long as she is medically insured for that period?

I live in Miami, FL, and am a US citizen.

While at that, my mom is generally healthy and has no major illness other than mild diabetes. What insurance will be the best for her? Insubuy has too many options for me to figure out! Atlas America or Liason Continent or Patriot America or ...!?!

health insurance is not mandatory to enter US. But the CBP officer may ask to look at a return ticket .
they often do that to make sure the person has an intent to return.

Even if it costs you a little bit to change later, I suggest you book a return ticket for her.

Also, as far as I know, you cannot board from India on a one way ticket when you are travelling on a visitor visa.

insurance; i have no personal experience but have heard patriot is good.

Thanks Peach999! After your post I searched and find that a one-way ticket is a problem; might as well get the return ticket and be ready to cancel if that's needed. I see that Air India charges $125 for changes and $200 for cancellations, and can assume others will be in the same ball-park. Ah well!

Diabetes is a mother of 100 other diseases. In any case, even for perfectly healthy person, anything can happen to any one at any time at any age. And as healthcare costs are very high in the U.S., it is extremely important to purchase visitors insurance for her.

Three plans you mentioned are the best three available in the U.S. market today. However, as she is 70+, I would recommend that you buy Patriot America, available at https://www.insubuy.com/patriot-america-insurance/

Please call our office at (866) INSU-BUY and we will help you select the one that would be most suitable for your needs. Meanwhile, please visit https://www.insubuy.com and enter your criteria. Once you see the quotes, you can compare them side by side.

Also, please look at https://www.insubuy.com/visitors-ins...ars-age-group/ This article is specifically written to help people choose the most suitable plan who are in 70 to 79 age group.
        Thanks & Regards
