  • Visitor visa extension - return air ticket

    Hi,
    I am planning to apply for extension of visitor visa for my parents for 3 months. Their original plan for departure was 14-July-2013 and they have their return air tickets to India booked.
    My question is, while applying for extension, one of the recommended document was :

    "A copy of your return air ticket to show that your stay is temporary"

    Does this mean that, I should postpone their air tickets for future date (say 3 months from the original planned departure) and submit those copies of air ticket as proof ? or I should just submit the existing air tickets ??

    Highly appreciate your timely responses.

    Thanks a lot!

    Yes, rebook their tickets. Previous tickets will not prove that they intend to leave after extending their stay.

    Also , FYI;
    THe response to ext. appl. takes a long time. sometimes 2-3 mnths. If it comes after their I-94 expiry and it is a denial, they will be out of status immediately
    and will have to leave ASAP. This may impact their future boarding from India and US entry if they are not carrying extension papers.

    Also, Long stays in US and extension applications can impact their future applications for B1/B2 when the current one expires.
