Parents visitor visa B2 - 221g Pink

Hi,

My Parents attended the visa interview in chennai on Jun 6th 2013. Mom visa got approved for 10 yrs & Dad got 221 g pink slip.

Following are questions asked.

1. Who are there in US?
2. Where are you working?

My dad is retired Professor & answered the same. Then he was taken to Counter 31 where an Indian lady asked questions about his siblings & where they stay. Handed 221g pink slip, took the passport & asked to wait for few weeks as they have to do some admin processing.

What are the chances of clearing the 221 g?? Any approximate time line for the clearance??

No one can predict the chances like that.

Most people with clean backgrounds clear it. It is just an additional security hoop placed by the US authorities.
Usually they say a few weeks but can take longer couple of months in some cases.

By the way, what subject did he teach?

Hey, Thanks for the reponses.

He was an English Professor.

Since he is retired & used the word "Retired" when answering the question what he does. Do you think that has triggered this background process (221 g)? I feel using that word would have given them a doubt of possible migrant?? They asked only about his sibling.. No question on children or properties or ties back home.. So i am worried a bit..

Dad got 221g pink slip - visa issued in 2 business days

My parents had the same experience on June 14th 2013. Mom got visa and dad got pink slip and they asked him questions about his previous employers and siblings. They told him processing could take 7-8 weeks.
But the status of his visa says "Issued" on June 18th 2013. Only took two business days for them to approve it. Yay!! Never expected they would issue it so quickly.
I also noticed that many visa's that said "pending process" before my father's batch-id, still have the same status. I have no clue why some applications take so long to get approved and why some don't :|

Parents tourist visa 221g

Hi,

My parents and sister appeared for their visa interview in Mumbai on 15th September 2016 as under a family application. My sister was given the visa right then, however my parents were handed out a white form listing out all the documents that they needed to email for administrative processing along with the passports. My father works in a private firm and my mother works as a Chemistry professor and has done research in past for her PhD. I work in the United States along with my husband on H1B visa.
We sent out all the documents requested the very next day, however, the form was very generalized and did not really pertain to someone applying for a tourist visa. But nonetheless, we answered all the questions in details, including an invitation letter from me in .pdf format and every other information in a single word document (specifically mentioned by them). We also mentioned my mother's research topic and practical applications for the research.

Once the documents were received by the tech team, my parents received the request for passport submission the very next day saying that the administrative processing was complete and they need to go to one of the drop off locations for submitting the passports. Because my father was the primary applicant, they had only mentioned his DS-160 confirmation number, but asked for other applicant passports as well if it was a family interview.

This is a general post regarding all the people out there who might be worried if their parents got a 221g slip, because I was and I could not find any case like mine and a timeline. So here it is, a tourist visa for my parents which was put under 221g was processed in less than 2 days. As long as your papers are satisfactory and you have replied to all the questions they have asked, you should be fine. That includes resume of parents, their current job positions, responsibilities etc. If they are not satisfied with the documents provided and need additional information, they will contact you back asking for it.
