Duration Between visits

My Mother will be coming on August1 and will be leaving on 31st Aug 2013. She is planning to come again end of december or first week of January 2014 and then stay for 6 months with us.
Will there be any issue at the port of entry during her second vist?And if there is no issue,will they reduce her stay in her second trip?

keeping a 4 month interval is ok after a one month stay.
But stay allowed will depend on the admitting officer.
No one can predict beforehand.

They will ask her the duration but she should avoid mentioning
a stay of 6 months.
