  • Query on Interview Appointment

    Hi,

Both my parents are working in government jobs; however my father is going to retire at the beginning of next year. I have filled the DS-160 forms individually for both of them. Have also created a profile on my father's name wherein I was thinking to add my mother as a dependent and pay $320 fee combined in that one profile.
My mother's leave sanction confirmation letter will definitely be issued soon but my father's leave sanction approval is going to take around 10-15 days.

    a) Should I wait for my father's leave sanction approval before I pay the fee/schedule an appointment for them? Can they both give interviews only with my mother's leave sanction letter. Wanted to know how much risk is involved in this
    b) Will it make a difference if I create a profile on my mother's name and add my father as a dependent

    Please suggest; Thanks !

All working professionals should have leave sanction letter from their respective company. If you are showing that your father is working then he should have a leave sanction letter from his company.

You can book your appointment now but while selecting interview date leave sufficient lag time by when your father will get his leave sanction letter.

While VO now days dont check any document, this is a basic document that one should carry. Ideally mother would be dependent on your father so do what is natural.

Thank You ! I have one last question. After selecting a slot and clicking continue for Consular appointment, I will be able to see the OFC dates. If I want to change the consular appointment date and make it nearest to the OFC appointment date, can I go back and do that. I just wanted to confirm if the system will not reserve and will allow me to go back and change the Consular appointment date based upon the OFC date slots.

Yes you can. Once you select a date and time slot for your Consular appointment you will be shown options for OFC appointment. Before confirming OFC appointment date and time slot you can always go back and change the Consular appointment.

Honestly, you don't need to bother about this because you will find that Consular appointment slots for Tourist visa are limited while for OFC you will have multiple options. Also, my advice will be to keep at least 2 working days gap between OFC and Consular appointment. In case your parents go for OFC and staff there points out some mistake in DS-160 form, your parents will have time till next day to come back and submit a new form or reschedule their appointment.

So focus more on Consular appointment date and time in terms of convenience than OFC
