  • Health Insurance For Visitors and Visa Extension

My parent will likely be visiting US. I have few questions about health insurance for visitors with Pre-Existing Conditions.

    1. Is there any US company that offers health insurance for visitors with pre-existing conditions? This is the most important information that I am looking for.

    2. My second question is about Indian insurance companies. Does anyone has an experience filing claim with Indian Insurance companies for their parents/ visitors and how was the experience - problems with claim process or no problems ?

    3. For parents visiting US do they need certain documents at the immigration counter at the port of entry (financial documents/ property etc...)? If so what documents?

    4. What kind of questions are parents asked by the immigrations officer at the port of entry?

Thanks for any tips and information.

Q 1, 2--- I will first talk about Indian insurance cos. There are several horror stories, so in my opinion do not got there. Buy an American insurance co. it will be accepted at the Emergency room. Patriot America is considered to be good, you can buy it online on this forum. No one will cover pre-existing diseases. That is a problem for all senior visitors. But anything new like a fall, accident will be covered by PATRIOT or any US insurance.

    Q3,4- No documents required at POE. They should carry your contact address/phone no. and a copy of your visa ( not asked for but just in case). They mainly ask two qs;
    PUrpose and duration.

      1.
Depending upon the age of the person, there are various plans that cover acute onset of pre-existing conditions. Please read https://www.insubuy.com/visitor-insu...ng-conditions/ for more information.

      2.
It is always preferred to purchase the insurance from the US based company, compared to any India based company.

Please read https://www.insubuy.com/visitors-ins...ia-comparison/ to understand the difference between buying from USA v India.

RE: I did talk to Insubuy agent but she could not provide any help at all and have read the information you have on this website. My father is 71 and has pre-existing conditions. What is the best health insurance for him?

There is really not much you could do regarding pre-existing conditions coverage at that age.

          Have you read https://www.insubuy.com/visitors-ins...ars-age-group/ ?

I see this is a recent post ? Were you able to find something with pre-existing condition ? My mother has diabetes and high blood pressure and takes medications for that. So far this is the only one I came across that covers pre-existing conditions for either 15,000 or 25,000. The premiums are higher than the rest but I couldn't find any reviews if anyone has ever used it.

If you would like $50,000 in overall policy max for new medical conditions, consider Patriot America at https://www.insubuy.com/patriot-america-insurance/ For $100,000, consider Patriot Platinum America at https://www.insubuy.com/patriot-plat...ica-insurance/ Both of them are comprehensive coverage plans.

Both of them will cover up to $2,500 in sudden and unexpected recurrence of pre-existing conditions, described at https://www.insubuy.com/patriot-trav...ions-coverage/

While purchasing any visitors insurance, you need to keep in mind whether the plan is fixed coverage plan or comprehensive coverage plan. Fixed coverage plans pay only a fixed amount for each and every procedure, even for new medical conditions, and those amounts may be significantly lower than the actual expenses. More described at https://www.insubuy.com/visitors-insurance/

Think about this: If you need a surgery that costs $40,000, if the insurance paid only $3,000, even if it was new medical condition, what is the use of $50,000 policy maximum? Or even $50,000,000,000,000 policy maximum?

Therefore, we always recommend everyone to purchase only the comprehensive coverage plans. Do not simply go by overall numbers. Look carefully what is inside.
