  • Question on visitor visa for parents

    Hello All,

I'd like to call my parents to visit me in US for a few months. I'm their only son.

My parents have their own house and some bank balance/FDs (~Rs. 10 Lakhs). dad is retired, no active income. Only income is interest from FDs etc. Mom is housewife.
They had a 10-year visa, which is now expired. they visited us in US 3 times on prior 10 year visa, each time 2-3 months stay, never overstayed.
They are going for fingerprints and appt later this month.

Any risk you see for their B2 visa? They indicated self sponsored in DS-160.

Any risk of the fact that I'm the only son, what about assets?
They just want to come for visit/tourism, and truly have no intentions of immigrating.

    Thanks much

    --- Added later:
One more question: Is there any issue of them coming in January/Feb? We're in NJ, and its winter right now. Would they question why are you going in winter?
Earlier 3 times, they've always come in summer only.

*what is your visa status in US?
    *Are you married?
*How did they get their first visa 10 yrs ago? I mean what purpose did they show and
what was your visa status then?

you are a US citizen and the only son. that is a huge negative I am sorry. Parents of US citizens are immediate relatives who can
adjust to a green card without waiting in any visa line. Regardless of your parents' actual non-immigrant intent, tHe officer will think parents will like to live where their only son is.And with a US citizen son they can easily get a green card in a few months. Plus they do not have any job/income or family ties in India. Hence they are potential immigrants so no visitor visa.

That said, if they are lucky, the officer may consider their past visa usage and may grant them the visa. All depends on the officer and their luck.

Funding wise, 10 Lacs of FDs may not cut it. As he has no other income. But now it is too late for you to send funding papers unless you want to resubmit their
forms. So just let them apply like that.

          1. FDs should be ~20 lacs, not 10. I stand corrected.
          2. My dad still has his mom there to take care (but he's not alone, he has two more brothers also to help take care) - so some more family ties.
          3. I got USC in 2007. They came here in 2002, 2007 and again in 2011. If they were interested in immigrating, we would already have applied for their GC by now, but didn't.

Just putting out some more facts/answers to get your thoughts. Thanks for your input.

            1. Ok. let him show self funding.
            2. mainly, the only family ties they consider are spouse and/or children.
            3. true , a good officer may go deeper into when you got your citizenship, so cross your fingers and hope for the best.
