Possible Scam?

I have a concern/question. My friends mother got a random ******** message from a gentleman in Egypt. They started as friends by playing some FB game Cityville together and within 3 months he declared his love for her and wants to come visit. He is telling her that she has to sponsor him in order for him to come and visit. Is this true in order for him to come visit and are there any scams that you are aware of going around with this? The reason I ask is he’s 29 and my friends mother is 50, so something doesn’t seem right. Thank you for any help you can provide.

Better safe than sorry. The moment someone whom you have not met asks for personal details and financial help on the internet, one should be on guard. If the person is well off he can self sponsor and come on his own as a tourist.
