  • B1/B2 inquiry

    Hello,

Recently my visa was issued by the US consulate for the purpose of attending a competition in Dallas* Fort Worth, under B1/B2 category, however due to some unconvincing circumstances the program to attend the competition has being called off by the college, and to be honest it seriously aches.
    My question is that,
    1) my visa bears an expiration after 10 years, so do I need to reapply for the visa if I'm intending to see my sister in USA or can I use the same visa for that purpose.

    2) At present I don't have plans to study in US, but if in case I wish to apply for F1, will this visa be cancelled before F1 approval.

    3) Will entering in US with B1/B2 for tourism purpose and not for competition purpose(for which my visa was approved) will anywhere affect my profile during F1 application?

    Thank You.

a 10 yr multiple entry visa automatically means the initial situation at application cannot and does NOT need always be there.
So you do not need to apply for a new visa.

So, strategically wait a few months and you can go with the tourism purpose . they will have your DS160 on their screens , so take a proof of cancellation of the initial purpose , just in case they ask why you did not travel initially.

Q2. if they approve your F1 , they can leave your B1/B2 intact. But if they deny you the F1 for lack of ties, they will most certainly also
    cancel your existing B1/B2.

    Q3. Ans. is NO.

Are you sure about the cancellation point?
And I've no proff of event cancellation, it is just verbally announced by the principal.

214b ( lack of ties) applies to both visas B1/B2 as well as F1. So if F1 is denied on 214b, it is very natural they will cancel the B1/B2 as well.
If you are not sure about the strength of your student visa application, you could explore options about changing status to F1 while in US as a tourist. Changed status has its drawbacks but it is better than F1 denial with B1/B2 cancellation.

If you do not have proof of cancellation, I would suggest you wait a few months to travel as a tourist.
