50 year old home owner applying b2 london

I am uk citizen wish to apply for B2 in London but have read that if of working age forget it. I am 50 years old and a home owner with savings - is it worth the trouble. My concern is that if refused I will not be eligible for VWP either. I am currently eligible for VWP but would like to plan a trip of 6 months as it is a trip of a lifetime. The whole B2 thing is sounding like a lot of bother.

yes, if denied you won't be able to use your vwp either.If you have no job/business and no family ties to UK, it would decrease the chances. In the end , it
all depends on the discretion of the officer interviewing you.

I would say, why take a chance ; split your trip into two spaced visits 90 days each using your vwp.
