  • Overstayed 5 months and don't have money for return back

    Hi,

Me and my friend entered the U.S.A.- California from Turkey on 27th June 2013 with B2 visa. Our I-94 was till 27th December 2013 and right now it's been almost 5 months since our visas expired.

We know that staying here for more 6 months without a valid visa can cause us a 3 or 10 year ban so we want to go back to Turkey before it happens but would immigration office provide us a plane ticket for going back? What is the process for voluntary departure? We didn't commit any crime or anything illegal in the U.S. We don't want to be banned from the U.S.A but but we don't have money to buy a plane ticket before 27th June 2014 so what should we do? Please help.

    Thanks.

    Not a Good Situation

    hi,

So, if you want the state to pay for your tickets back to turkey you will have be reported to homeland security. They will keep you in their holding facility till the time your turn comes. Time frame varies upon which state you are in.
As a Visa counselor i have heard cases from 15 days to upto 6 months in NJ.
Also, you will be registered as a defaulter and will be next to impossible to get a visa again.

your best bet is to arrange for funds anyhow and get your own ticket.
    hope the above helps

If you were a U.S. citizen overseas and stuck without a return ticket, the U.S. Embassy would pay your way back, confiscate your passport, and you might never be able to leave the U.S. again (so I have heard).

Have you asked the Turkish Embassy for travel assistance? If you ask U.S. immigration offices for a return trip, you won't be very happy with the treatment you may receive.
