Re-Entry in to USA with valid extended 1-94 under B2 tourist visa

My friend is visiting the USA from Costa Rica, and has been granted an visitors extension (I 539)on his original 1-94 form until April 2006. My question is this-Will he have any difficulties re-entering the USA if we go to Mexico for the holidays?
