Limited Visit for Parents
Hi everyone. I've been visiting your site for about a year now, but only recently decided to join.
I'm a legal resident that moved to the USA little over 6yrs ago. My parents are visiting me from South Africa (on South African passports) and we were told they can only visit for a maximum of 6 months (they wanted to stay roughly 8 months), and then return to South Africa. Nobody can advise me on the following and I hope someone here might have some answers:
1) Is the 6 months maximum a US rule or a South African rule?
2) Do they have to return to South Africa before they can come back for another visit, or could they (hypothetically) go to Canada for a week and then visit the USA again for another 2 months, before returning to SA? According to an email I received from the South African Embassy in Pretoria, there is NO timeframe to wait, if they wish to return to the USA again, as long as their visa's & passports are valid.
I would appreciate any help!
