  • B2 Visa - 5 year Multi Entry

    Hello,

I have some questions about the B2 visa Multi entry 5 year, and I could not find the answers on the website.

    1) If I wanted to stay over the date stamped in my passport what is the process to do so?

    2) How does the 5 year multi work in regards to coming back to the US once I have left. Once I have gone back to my home country and then decide to come back within the 5 year period,
do I have to reapply, do I need to apply online or do I just travel as per usual?

    Thank you for your help.

    Hello, Joshb.

A multi-entry B2 visa allows you multiple entries into USA without seeking a fresh visa for each visit. However, it does not mean that the visitor can stay in the USA for the entire duration of the visa, i.e.: i) A 5 year multi-visit visa does not mean one can stay for 5 years in USA - Upon entering USA, at the Port of Entry (POE) a period of stay (I-94) is allowed which is the permitted stay for that trip in USA for the visitor, ii) The I-94 period should not be breached - e.g.: A traveller on a B2 visa issued for Sep 2014 to Sep 2019 enters USA in Nov 2014 and is allowed I-94 stay upto Apr 2015. The visitor must leave USA by Apr 2015 before the I-94 expires. A visitor keen on staying longer needs to file an extension of stay application giving a reason for extending stay in the USA. If the outcome of extension application is awaited by the time I-94 expiry happens, the visitor should leave the country (though he/she is technically allowed to stay basis the extension application but it is better to leave).

Further, upon each B2 entry to USA, the stay should not be very long. If the visitor stays for long periods on each visit - (5-6 months) then it could lead to complications with the Immigration Officer at the POE on next visit.

    I hope this helps.

    Wishing you luck.

    Cheers,

These are my personal thoughts. I am not a professional.

    Wishing you luck.
