Can I cancel my DS160 form?

Hi,
I filled the DS160 form yesterday. However today I got some bad news from my family and due to unavoidable circumstances, I wont be able to visit the US. So I want to cancel my visa application process, however the application has already been filled and I got my confirmation code etc.

but did not schedule an appointment or interview with the consulate yet.

The payment has also not been made from my end.

Can I cancel my DS160 and visa application? Is it a necessary procedure to follow or can I simply ignore the application filled since no payment has been made yet? Will it impact my future travel plans?

If you didn't make appointment and haven't paid visa fee will expire automatically. You can ignore this DS-160 form.
