  • Need advice to change my mom's B2 to Green Card "for special circumstances"

    Hello everyone,
I live in the USA as a permanent residence (in the middle of my application of naturalization) and my mother ,74, years, sometimes visit me for a few weeks or so then goes back overseas. She lives there only with my dad who passed away two months ago. She is now having hard time as no one lives with her or taking care of her. she got very sick and no one stood by her and I had to travel until she recovered. Now I have my family and work here and there is no way I can leave here. The only way for her is to come and live with me here. At the same time I can not let her live alone to die in her apartment without anyone even knowing about it!
I need advice on how to apply for a permanent residence for her, what the steps are, the documents needed, the timeline and what the chances are.
Thank you very much in advance for every one who gives advice or even wish me good luck.

When you naturalize, you can petition for her to receive an immigrant visa, as she is your immediate relative (parent, spouse, minor unmarried child). Unlike any other family based relationship, an immigrant visa will be immediately available to her. That said, processing time depends on her consulate, and is usually about a year. If she already has a tourist visa (B-2), and is able to travel to the United States, she can then apply to adjust her status to that of a permanent resident -- while she is in the United States. The process is slightly quicker than consular processing, and she can spend time in the United States while awaiting adjustment.
