I was wondering what happens when someone overstays their visa and how they can get legal status here in the US. My girlfriend had a work visa a few years ago, came and got a social security number, returned home after a year, then came back on a visitor visa and overstayed after realizing there was no future where she is from. Is there any way she can get legal status in this country? She is not worried about getting deported, she says if you came legally but overstayed they do not deport you, and she has even gone to the Brazilian embassy and renewed her passport. I need to know there is a future though, I am sure you understand where I am coming from. Thanks for the help!
