  • Bank Balance

    Hi,
I recently moved to the US and need to sponsor my in laws. My bank balance in the US is not very healthy as I recently moved in. I wanted to get some clarifications from others in this group who may have had the same questions/concerns:-

1/ Can I show my Indian bank balance amount also on the I-134 Affidavit of Support form? If yes, how should it be shown - converted to USD or as a separate entry below the line where the question on deposits in US Banks appears?
2/ The website mentions that the original Birth Certificate of spouse needs to be sent in the case of sponsoring in-laws - is that mandatory?

Any information anybody could provide would be really appreciated.

    Thanks

Sometimes the officer asks for the original BC. So its better to have it rather than saying No. If ur wife doesn't have BC, then try other alternatives such as non-availability cert. from village or municipality, addidavit from parents or relatives, notarised frontpage copy of the matriculation cert. etc...

A bank balanc eof minimum $5000 will be enough to sponsor, eventhough the more is the better. I don't think u can show bank balance in India, since the consulate is looking for ur ability to support ur parents while ur they are here.

Thanks for your inputs. On the bank balance, the tips on filling the form in this site actually suggests that you can show the Indian account bank balance also!
