  • second time B2 refusal

My cousin applied for a visitors visa 4 years ago and she was denied. We kind of figured because she had no strong ties to her country. This year she applied and she has a good job with good pay, she has two properties and Is planning on contiuing school next spring. During her interview only 3 questions were asked " who are you visiting in the U.S. ? "she answered my aunt. " how long has your aunt lived in the U.S. ?" she answered 13 years. "how did she go ?" She answered green card. " are you married ? " she answer no. And from that she was denied. I honestly don't see the problem. Help me understand their reasoning. Is there a chance of approval if she would apply again in the next 2-4 weeks? She'd like to visit during thanksgiving or Christmas because of her work schedule and only for 2 week stay.

She could certainly re-apply. They should have given her a form with a reason code on it. Sometimes it's a general code that basically means for whatever reason the consulate officer that day was not comfortable issuing the visa. They don't really have to have a valid reason. Any given day one officer may approve and the next day another may give a denial.

If your cousin is fairly young, that could be a determining factor. The aunt filing for a Greencard could certainly be another reason. Jobs are somewhat a strong tie but people who want to immigrate are not concerned about their jobs in their home country. Also, the property may or may not help. I would just try again. Hopefully the next officer will approve.

    Good luck to you!
