  • Question about visitor visa

My parents are planning to visit my sister who lives in Canada during their visit to the U.S. Does the 6 months period start from the time they entered the U.S first, or will they get a new I-94 (that is valid for another 6 months)when they come back to the U.S from Canada?

How are they visiting Canada? By flight or by road?

Your 6 months starts from entering US. Usually exit to Canada will not help you getting another I-94.

          New I-94 each time !

I would think that every time you exit the country your I-94 will be taken away and every time you enter back a new one will be issued. Now whether the officer will give a 6 month stamp each time will depend on what you tell them and whether they believe you.

In this particular case, going to canada, mexico can technically constitute tourism so they shouldn't have an issue giving you a 6 month each time. Of course as long as you provide them with valid plans for the 6 months !

All this is assuming that you have a multiple entry visa valid for the 6 months of stay !
