Passport not returned from consulate after correction

I am in a real fix. My mother got a 10 year visa and gender on her visa was wrong. They sent in the passport for correction through VFS to consulate as they said it would take 3 to 4 days. Consulate says that they have corrected the passport and sent it back. But VFS says that they do not have passport. It has been two weeks and my parents have postponed their visit. Somebody please tell me what should i do?

Have a fight with the vfs guys and write a letter to the US embassy stating the facts.

U have to find a way....
