  • Traveling to the USA with American Girlfriend that lives abroad

    Hello,

I am trying to find information/advice on traveling to the USA with my American girlfriend in regards to the visa application.

To give some background, I am an Indian citizen but I live and work in The Netherlands for nearly 4 years now. I have a permanent job contract with one of the top banks in The Netherlands, I own my own house in Netherlands, and I have a steady income and more than enough funds to finance my time in the US. My American girlfriend also lives and works in The Netherlands and has been here for almost 4 years as well. We both moved to The Netherlands to get our Masters degree and stayed for work after our studies. We have been dating for close to 3 years.

I am seeking advice/ peoples experiences on whether we should say on my visa application that I will be traveling with my American girlfriend? I have found plenty of information on the boyfriend/girlfriend traveling to the US to visit American gf/bf situation but since my girlfriend does not reside in the US, none of the information really applies to our situation. We both have to come back to The Netherlands as we work there and will have our return flights booked before applying for the visa, and therefore have no intention on staying in the US after our travels. Considering our situation, should I say we will be traveling together, or is it better to say I will be traveling alone?

Does anybody have experience with this type of situation? Or any advice on what is best to do in this situation?

Any help is greatly appreciated! Thank you in advance

Well, its not good to suggest, but you can simply say you are going to visit USA on your own (forget about your GF).

Proving sufficient funds & sufficient proof for your ties to your home or residential country will help.

Thank you for the reply! Do you think it is risky to say we will be traveling together? Or is it better to say she is my friend?

Can't say, but it may be risky.

          Always be honest..

If you're traveling together, say you'll be traveling together.
If traveling by yourself, say you're traveling alone.

At the end of the day, only you know what the facts are!

You have unnecessarily complicated the situation. Note that buying return tickets means nothing to the American officials and will not sway them in the least.

My advice is - if you truly have no intention of misusing the tourist visa (that is, going there with the intention of settling in the USA and using the tourist visa as a shortcut), then keep your girlfriend out of the visa application process. If you have a strong case for returning after a short visit to the USA, present it.
