  • Sponsor Ukrainian visa

    Hello,

I'm a french student living in the US for a year on a J-1 visa in California, as a french guy, I didn't have much troubles to get my visa, as it's easier to prove I won't try to illegally immigrate in my country. But I'd like my girlfriend to come with me with a b-2 visa for a month. She is Ukrainian and therefore doesn't have the Visa Waiver program. I met her several time in Ukraine and have proof (I have at least 4 ukrainian stamps in my passport, I used to have more but unfortunately my passport expired 5 months ago). She tried to apply in April, when I left, without much documents (well there was her father financial support, a small letter that I wrote and proof that she is a student). But they only asked her 2-3 questions and didn't accept any papers, they just said : "Sorry, you can't have a visa today" after looking at her passport.
My question is : Would filling an Affidavit of support (I-134) and give my employment informations and bank informations could help? What if they just refuse every papers again? Do you know any other way she could get a b-2 visa? Could the company I'm currently working with help her to get a touristic visa in any way?

    Thanks for the answers,
    Max

The problem here isn't the financial support. Clearly she would have that between her father and you if needed. The biggest problems that will more than likely prevent her from getting a tourist visa at all are the following: She is a Ukrainian citizen, she is young, her boyfriend is in America and wants her to come visit, she doesn't really have strong ties to home country. She is a prime example of someone who would try and immigrate.

This is my opinion and not legal advice. Use of this information is strictly at your own risk.

So basically, the chances that she ever gets a visa in the next 6 months are close to 0? Would leaving USA for a week under my J-1 to go to ukraine be a dangerous move for me?

        Visitor visa

Yes, it would be very difficult for her to get a visitor visa to come to the US. As for going there, your J1 allows you into the US not elsewhere. You have gone there before so you should be able to go again. Tho on a J1 you prob have to make sure it's ok for you to leave.
