Visa Has Wrong Info

My mom recently got a 10 year visa,when she got her passport back and checked .The sex was wrong.instead of F its typed as M.

how big of a problem it is and if it is what shld she do to get it corrected it..

some background of the problem


when filling the DS-156 i have by mistake put it as male instead of female and that field is uneditable in VFS website..so when i called them up,they said i can use a marker and correct it..so i did the same..she appeared for the visa and everything went well..but when she saw the visa its still M instead of F.

can someone please suggust.

It is the responsibility of applicants to check visa stamped in the passport for any typo error on the issuance day. If it is not done on the same day, only way to correct is send back the passport to Consulate with an explanation letter along with an additional courier delivery fees.

she checked the visa details immeditaly after receiving her passport thru courier.
so shld i send it to the consulate or to the VFS office..please advice

You look to work for VFS and throw all the blame on the users for the mistakes done by VFS and the consulate...
by the time the passport comes to us,its already stamped and i have no option other than sending to the consulate..and u mention here as if i have done the biggest crime in the world for not checking...

Try to fix the data first then make travel arrangments.

You never know how the port of entry guys react.

I beleive you are not only the person effected by consulate TYPO.

can someone please tell me which address to send the passport for the visa correction..also do i need to include the money for couriering back the passport to me.

i have checked the VFS website and the us consulate and i have not get any info.

please some one who has gone through this issue..please update the thread..i am waiting desperatly

Did u send any email to the chennai consulate rgding this issue yet?? Also VFS should be able to help u as well. send them a mail.

I believe that correction forms are available with the consulate that will correct name on the visa misspelt, gender, DOB, Nationality etc., if the said mistakes have been made inadvertantly by the Consulate. This may take some time. So you start emailing them now..
