Procedure at chennai consulate

My mother has an appointment next month. Does she have to take DD for Rs.2300 before she goes for appointment or does she have to take DD in consulate only if her visa gets approved.

Can someone share what happens after reaching the chennai consulate.My Mother is very nervous about the procedure and so i have to give her as much information as possible.

She has to carry the DD for 2300 (issued by nationlized bank) to the interview and has to submit if the visa is issued
