B2 Extension of Stay - Question regarding proof of return ticket

Hi,

I need to file an extension of stay for my mother-in-law and as per the required documents, I see that I am supposed to submit a proof of the return air ticket. Question is, is it okay to submit the existing air ticket which is at the end of Feb or do I have to change her ticket first (may/june) and then submit the new return ticket? Please advise.
