uk partner and step daughter in B2

Hi I am an L1 visa holder and due to not being married my partner and 10 year old step daughter of (7 years) could only join me here in the US on a b2, The Uk consulate gave them a matching 7 year visa but the immigration officer on arrival at the airport wrote a return date of 6 months, Does this mean they have to fly home every six months or is there someway i can get there visa to ensure they can stay with me. I really don't want to have to fly them back to the uk every six months just to get a date stamp. Any advice would be greatly welcomed.

They have to leave in 6 months. If the young lady is actually your step daughter she can get a dependent visa.

Here in the United States we don't take an expansive view of spousal equivalents.

Either get married or don't get married. You can't have your cake and eat it too.
