  • Visitor visa - name problem - plz help

    Hi,

I'm planning to bring my mother-in-law to US shortly. For this I need to submit a copy of my spouse's passport alo at the time of my in-law's appointment.
The problem here is, on my spouse's passport her mother name is given as 'SUNILA'. But my mother-in-law applied for the passport and received it as 'SUNILAMMA' .
Will this create a problem at the time of my in-law's interview at Chennai consulate. I have already booked an appointment for her in July.
    I have few questions here
    1) Will this difference in name cause a problem at the time of interview.
    2) If yes, is there a way to get my in-law's name changed in her passport. The problem here again is, She applied with her name as 'SUNILAMMA'. So will indian passport office entertain this change in name. If yes, what are the supporting documents needed and how much time it would take to get her name changed
    3) Even if my in-laws- name is changed in the passport, will i be able to change it in the appointment applications (156 and 157). I tired whether I can change, but on 156 it seems they are un editable. So will cancelling the appointment all together and applying again help. If we cancell the appointment and try to apply again will the present info be already stored in vfs-usa and create a problem
    4) Since me and my spouse are already in US, how easy is to get my in-laws' name changed on my spouse;s passport.

Some one please help me out. I appreciate all your help

    Thanks
    Shiva

    Which language is your appointment?

Just curious if the appointment is in English or Regional Language. Either way, may be you guys can take an avvidavit that proves the change in her name. Shouldn't be a big deal I think

      Hi Goutham,

      Appreciate your response.

      The appointment is in english.
By the way my -n-law applied for passport after my spouse received the passport. At the time of applying my in-law's passport we have submitted a notarised affidavit whcih says her name is as in passport now.
Now what sort of affidavit shall she carry now to support a name change (as she already submitted a affidavit at the time of her passport application with the name as now in passport)

      Thanks
      Shiva
