  • Canadian visiting American husband in the US

    Hi,

I'm hoping someone can provide some guidance on my situation. For background: I am a Canadian, living and working in Canada with no intention of immigrating to the US. I am soon going to marry an American who is living and working in the US and the plan is that after our wedding (here in Canada) I will sponsor him to move here with me. He will be continuing his job in the US while his application for permanent residency in Canada is in the works.

The issue: For the past three years we have visited each other almost every weekend (either he comes here or I go there) and neither of us have had any issues or required any sort of visa. I am concerned that after we are married I'll have issues crossing the border into the US to visit him on weekends like I've been doing (because instead of "visiting my boyfriend" I'll be "visiting my husband"). Will I need to apply for some kind of special visitor visa? Or will I need to bring sufficient documentation to prove my ties to Canada each time I visit him?

Thanks in advance for any advice!

Just because you got married, you don't need visa now, if you didn't need it earlier.
