  • Medical examination for NIV?

    Hi!

Does anyone here know in what - if any case it is required to undergo a medical examination when applying for a NIV? All information I have read online supports that it is only for IV a medical examination is required.

The reason I wonder is because of a case in the local media here, where a girl, that was charged (and accepted a fine) for public drinking, had to undergo a medical examination for a NIV.

I just cannot seem to find any information that warrants a medical examination for a NIV. Does anyone have any information at all regarding this?

Medical exams are only requested for NIV applicants whose record raises the question if they have a communicable diseases of interest, are a habitual drunk, or a drug abuser

        Ahh, ok.

Was just wondering if the routines have changed or something. Seeing that I didn't need an examination in 2015, but this woman did. The news case is a little unclear as to when this was.. They also cited the Embassy as a source saying that "if the crime is related to controlled substances you will need to go to the doctor". Just find this so absurd.. Hope it is a mistake from the CO at that time, and that the info from the Embassy is really something the CO told the woman at the time.

I can't find anything on the Embassys webpage, or any other page for that matter..

I don't see what is absurd about it

Would you really prefer than consulates deny applicants a visa outright without a chance to prove that they aren't habitual drunks, drug users, or carriers of serious infectious diseases?

No. But to scan for TB when you have gotten a fine for public drinking seems excessive.
