  • Visitor Visa for In-laws - Both are not working - Self sponsoring with their savings

    Hi All,

i am filling up DS-160 for my In-laws. what should i give as Occupation? my mother in law is house wife from starting, my father in law is not working from 10 years. he used to work as private contractor and have savings. he has very little agriculture lands(not farming currently). He has enough savings in bank account for the trip. can he just take his bank statement?

    1) what should i give his occupation in DS-160? (Self employment or something else? i can not give as retired - He is 62 years old)
    2) Where should i give my H1 details and my wife's H4 details in DS-160?

Sounds to me like he's retired

Why would he spend his entire life savings on a short, temporary trip to the United States?

you are complicating too much. Who said his entire life savings are just $5k-10k? How much it would cost for 3-6 months usa trip to visit daughter and son in law and visit just few places?

I am looking for answer and solution my friend. U r raising again too many complicated questions.

What would be best option for occupation?

I misread "he has enough funds in his bank account for the trip" as "he has just enough funds in his bank account for the trip" which wasn't right

However, if you think I'm difficult or are complicating things, wait until he tries to overcome the presumption of his immigrant intent to a consular officer

Like I said, from your description he is retired

          .......
People retire at any age in the US. It will be seen as retirement if he hasn't worked in that many years.
          Not legal advice.
