  • visitor visa for my mummy

I am filling visitor visa for my 72 year old mummy.I just lost my daddy.
She has 5 usa citizen daughters in usa and 2 sons in India.
    In ds-160
Have you ever been refused a US visa or been refused admission to the united states or withdrawn your application for admission at the port of entry.

    what should be my ans.
if you don't show up for interview is this consider refused?

    Let me give you history
My sister filled green card for my mother in 1990 without her knowledge.
My mother was not interested to go for interview after insisiting my mother went without preparartion.USA consulate wanted her to come back with missing docs. She didn't go second time due to emergency family affairs in india as well as She is not interested in setting down in usa ,so case is closed. She instructed all of us not to file green card for her in future.

Please provide me tips How should I increase chance of my mummy getting visitor visa. My mummy is not in god shape after losing her husband. We all are working here and already exhausted our 2 weeks vacation for Daddy funeral.
If she will be here we all five daughter can help her emotional

The fact that your mother did not show interest in Green Card is a positive but at that time her husband was alive. Now she is a widow so there is a high possibility the VO will reason she could use the tourist visa for extended stay in US or have one of the citizen daughters file for a Green Card as soon as she lands in US, chance of denial is high.

My advice is in the invitation letter or the interview DO NOT say she is lonely and needs emotional support because she lost her husband, doing that will surely result in denial. Just say she wants to visit her children and grandchildren. Also make the duration of stay in DS-160 no more than a month, if you make it longer VO will suspect and have a good answer for only for one short month and not more. Wish you all the best.

Withdrawn application is more appropriate in her case though she did'nt do it in writing officially she abandoned it and the intent is same as withdrawing. This can be explained during the interview. The VO will ask then why interested now? She can say my children and grandchildren are requesting me to make atleast one trip to see them.

Thanks a ton for your reply.Really People are so awesome here and find time to help each other. Is this letter look good.

Subject: Request to issue visitor visa to my Mother
I would like to invite my mother to visit her five daughters and their families in the USA for a couple of months. As all daughters are working, we get only 2 weeks to visit our mother every year, It is more practical for my mother to come and visit her five daughters/grandkids ,travel and see the major attractions in Texas, Atlanta, Ohio, Niagara Falls etc. It will also be an opportunity for her to see and experience the American culture, meet different kinds of people and taste different varieties of food.
The purpose of the trip Visit, travel and enjoy the company of Family.
My Mother has strong reasons to return to India before her visa expires. They are
          1. She has all her family – Two sons, daughters-in-law, younger grandkids, brothers, sisters, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, number of nephews and nieces, numerous friends and neighbors in India and she is very closely attached to them and undoubtedly she has a great life in India with full time help and a car with driver, proving that she has no intention to settle in the USA
          2. She is the sole custodian of her husband's legacy, she has two trustworthy sons with complete family that includes daughter-in-law’s and grandkids in India and according to Indian tradition Mother stays with sons as they are the flag bearers of Fathers legacy (we also have a tradition of ‘Rasam Pagri’ for sons)and can visit daughters.
          3. She has five daughters who all are US citizens, and she doesn’t want us to file for a green card. She looks forward to meeting daughters occasionally, for her own personal requirements and attend important family functions, graduation and weddings.
          4. She has bank balances at various institutions in India.
          5. She has to take care of the property in India, which is in her name.
Even though she is fully capable of supporting herself financially for her entire trip, it would be my pleasure to bear all the responsibilities including, but not limited to, food, boarding, health and medical insurance, return air fare to travel between India and the USA , travel and other expenses within the USA. I will personally make sure that she leaves the USA before the expiration of her authorized period of stay. We are a respectable and highly educated family that has always abided by the law of land. Kindly grant her the visitor visa. I appreciate your consideration and time. Should you have any questions, please contact undersigned.

          Thanking you,

Yes it looks good. However remember that the VO rarely reads the invitation letter because they all are boiler plate but she should take it with her and in the interview questions give the same answers as in the letter. Wish her good luck.
