H4 to L1

Can anyone let me know if we can change from H4 to L1 visa.I am in US on H4 visa.My company wants me to transfer my to US on L1
Do i need to go to India for L1?

Sushma,

You do not have to go to India if it is a regular L1 and not a Blanket L1. With a regular L1B, your company will send your L1B petition documents to UCICS, once it is approved you can start working. However, if you ever go to India, you have to get your passport stamped with the L1B visa before you return to the US.
