  • Is it possible to extend the tourist visa due to severe health emergency?

    Hello.

My aunt is visiting as a tourist and she is due to return back to her home country in a month. Few days ago she was admitted to the ER with "post cardiac arrest" diagnosis. Basically her heart briefly stopped on the way to ER. So I am writing to ask if it is possible to file an extension for her stay here in USA due to this health emergency?

I researched google and found that there is a form I539 but it is confusing to me. The form asking about I94 form which was never given to my aunt at the port of entry.
What should I do? How to expedite the process?

    Thank you for your time.

    M.

For the last several years, I-94s for people arriving by air have been electronic. She can print it out from here. There is no need to expedite it -- as long as it is received by USCIS before her status expires, she can stay for as long as it is pending.

This is my personal opinion and is not to be construed as legal advice.

      newacct,

Thank you for the quick reply.

So the I-539 is the correct form?

Having problem filling up pdf form on computer

I am having problems trying to fill up form on computer. When I click on the birth date field and either select the right date from the drop down or type it in by hand I get the error "Please enter 2 digit month, 2digit day and 4 digit year" even though I enter everything correctly. Is anyone know how to overcome this issue?

Try using Adobe Acrobat Reader, or write it in by hand.
