Question related to Port Of Entry

Hi,

My Parents are planning to visit USA for the first time sometime next month (I was their sponsor). They are planning to stopover in New York for couple of weeks before coming to visit me (I live on the west coast).

Does this pose a problem at the port of entry?
If they are asked, can they just say that they will be visiting relatives for couple of weeks before visiting their son?
