  • COS from B1 to F1 approved, what next?

    Hi

I am at present in the US on a B1/B2 visa and applied for change of status to F1 for which I have received the approval notice of I-797A.

What would be my next step?

Should I go to the country of origin for visa stamping?

Any small advice is greatly appreciated...thanks!!!

You are now in F1 status and can begin your studies. The whole point of doing Change of Status is so you can stay in the new status without leaving the US. If you leave the US, you cease to have status, and if you leave right after you got a Change of Status, then it would have basically been a big waste of money. If you wanted to leave the US and get a visa, you could have done that from the beginning, without doing Change of Status.

This is my personal opinion and is not to be construed as legal advice.

Congratulations! U should just go ahead and begin your studies. If you leave at any point before your program ends, you will have to reapply at d embassy for an F1 to re-enter the USA. So my advice, stay and get on with your studies.

Would appreciate if you can provide information like : when you applied, how long it took for a decision, where was your application processed, if you applied for B2 extension while your COS was pending.. basically, information that will help others..

        Thank you and good luck

How long did it take for you to get the F1 approval. One of my friend is waiting since April of last year.

Varies on the country you are applying from.
