  • B1/2 visa HELP!

I have recently obtained a B1/2 visa for ten years for a six month period.

I have searched the forum but can't find the answer to my question. If I enter the US today for one month and return say in 2019 can I use the remaining time of the visa? Or does the six month start from the moment the immigration officer stamps the visa?

Also can I transfer from this visa to a h1b whilst already in the US?

    Thanks so much!

Visa does not define your period to stay in USA. Until you reach USA (& issued I94) you'll never know how long your stay will be allowed.

Also, it will be difficult to get entry on B1, while your H1 is in progress - you might be restricted for a limited stay or denied entry.

There is no fixed six-month period for B1/B2 visit - it can vary & it cannot be transferred to any other visa.

Change of status from B1 to H1 is very difficult - as searching for job while on B1 is not allowed.

I am still a little unclear. If I enter the US today and they give me three months stay can I enter again in 2019 and hopefully get another three months. Can they give me 6 months in one go?
