  • Port of Entry

Can anyone please give some information about the questions asked at the port of Entry for parents. I heard that Chicago is cool where they dont ask any questions, but Dallas they ask a lot of questions. Is that true. Please help with what kind of questions will be asked at the port of Entry because I need to prepare my Mom to understand the questions asked in American accent.

    Thanks in Advance!

    Two qs are routinely asked;
    1. what is the purpose of your visit?
Depending on what you say, your I-94 will be stamped for the appropriate
visa qualification. For eample, if you have a B1/B2 and you say you have come to visit your child studying in US, your I-94 will be stamped B2.
Here they may also ask for a quick evidence like an invitation letter from
your child or a copy of his visa. Remember there are people in line, so it is
all very quick and your parents should keep a few documents in hand for a
    quick handout.

    2. How long do you wish to stay?
Whatever you say, it should match the purpose of your visit.
If you are visiting your child , you may say 4-5 months and your I-94 will
be stamped with an expiry date.

Thanks a lot Peace, do u know if Dallas is a better place for POE or Chicago, becasuse some of my friends told me that Dallas is too strict and they stamp for 5 months AFTER ASKING SO MANY QUESTIONS, but Chicago they dont ask any question and stamp for 6 months, is that true, do any of you have idea on this.

Your reply will be of great help for us.

Sorry msr, cannot help you there. I never travelled to either of the 2 ports you mentioned, so I do not know. I travelled to JFK and pittsburgh and
        both were pretty smooth.

My in laws were asked by POE officer " Who is prime minister of India?".
(he might want them to be relaxed or he might be pulling their legs!! don't know).

They were also asked how long they are going to stay. Nothing much. I suppose its quite simple process untill and unless your case is too complicated!
