  • Tourist Visa for Cousin

    Hi,

How easy it is to bring Cousin on Tourist Visa? My Cousin's last name is different from mine. Can I still bring my cousin?

Any one has experience bringing cousin? Could you please share with us.

    Thanks,
    Srinivas

COusins should try independently for the visitor visa. Depending on the circumstances, he/she will have a better chance than if you sponsor. This is because cousin
sponsorships are not considered "natural" and may be interpreted as
    intent to live in US.

More advice can be given if you describe your cousin's situation:,
age, marital status, education, occupation, financial standing, any trips to foreign countries, any visa refusals.

Peace, Thanks for your valuable information.

      Here are my cousin details:
      Age: 34 years
      Marital status: Married with kid
      Education - 8th grade ( She discontinued studies )
      Occupation : House Wife
      Financial : 20 lakhs ( including house )

      Thanks,
      Srinivas

You know the most imp. thing that the visa officer will assess is if she is going to come back. The best thing to do is for you to send an invitiation letter to her. It should be addressed to the consular, the US embassy/consulate, describing the ceremony and that it is an important function in the family and many people are invited.Describe your visa, job status in the US and your relationship with your cousin. And that you request the consular to grant her a visa for a visit of about a month.

        She will be asked the following questions;
Why do you wish to go?
FAMILY FUNCTION. IT IS AN IMPORTANT FUNCION IN OUR FAMILY AND CULTURE.
        For How long?
        ONE MONTH
        Are you married?
        YES
Is your husband going with you?
        NO
        Why not?
HE HAS A JOB/ BUSINESS IN INDIA.
        Why such a short trip?
I HAVE FAMILY TO TAKE CARE OF IN INDIA.
        Who is there in US?
        COUSIN
What do you do in India?
        HOUSEWIFE
        What does your husband do?
        ---
        How much does he earn?
SHOW HIS TAX RETURNS, JOB/BUSINESS EVIDENCE, DEPOSITS,
SHOW ALL THE MONEY YOU HAVE.
        Any children?
        YES, ONE
        How old?
        ----
Are you taking the child with you?
IF THE CHILD IS VERY YOUNG, IT IS BEST TO SAY YES. IF THE CHILD
IS OLDER LIKE 7+. SHE MAY SAY SHE IS GOING ALONE.
Who is paying for the trip.
MY HUSBAND. MAKE SURE SHE SHOWS ENOUGH FUNDS IN THE BANK.

In her situation, this is the best you can do. If her husband has a very good financial base in India, she will have a better
        chance.

        Good luck.

Thank you very much for giving me detail information.

I don't think her husband has any Tax return statements, as his salary is not more than Rs. 5000/month

          Will it be a problem?

Is it ok to say that I am inviting her to attend "House Warming Ceremony"? Please attach if you have any sample letters addressing to Consulate.

          Thanks,
          Srinivas

Her husband's low income is going to be a major problem. In that case she should not say her husband is paying for the trip. In this case, you should send financial sponsorship, that is sending an I-134 to your sister, along with the invitation letter. Also send the copies of your passport, and visa. Your cousin should say to the officer that
you are paying for the trip. Chances of her getting the visa are low because of her low financial status in India, but if you want you can try.

            Sample;

            To
            The Visa Consular,
            US Embassy/consulate
            City
            India

            Dear sir/madam,

I am in US on ------(visa status), since-----(date) , working with------
            (company)---------as-------(job title)--------drawing $------per
annum(income). Our family in US is going to have a house warming ceremony for our house. This is an important ceremony in our culture and family
and we like to have as many relatives attending as possible for this ceremony.
I wish for my cousin-------(name), who is-------(actual relation)
resident of---------- to attend this ceremony. I will afford all expenses
for her trip and her stay here with me, which will be about one month.
I am attaching form I-134 herewith for that purpose.

I request you to grant her a visitor visa for one month , so she can attend
            the ceremony.

            Yours sincerely,

Have them self sponsor their trip - they can still get it.
