Regarding documents required for Self Sponsored tourist visa

My son is a merchant navy officer who has C1D visa upto 2009. He will be self sponsoring his tourist visa.
Please advise what documents he needs to submit alongwith DS156/157 and also the documents that he has to carry to the interview. He will be visiting his sister. And as he is self-sponsored does his sister have to send him any documents. If yes, please let us know what documents are required.

Whether self-sponsored or not, 2 essential requirements are same:
* Enough resources to take care of stay in the USA
* Coming back to home country at the end of authorized stay in USA

If the person is self-sponsoring, any documents from his sister are NOT required.
