thanks a lot immihelp.my two cents.
My father in law (papaji) got his ten year multiple entry visa today at the delhi embassy.
he gave his interview in hindi , the interviewer was an american speaking perfectly good hindi!
while standing in line outside the embassy ,five docs are checked n arranged
by the officers
1. form DS 156/157
2. passport
3. extra photo
4. appointment/interview letter
5. hdfc receipt
these are the 5 that will be submitted to the embassy once you are inside and giving the interview.
at this point while outside you are asked whether you would like to give your interview in english or hindi and an interview window number for inside assigned to you on the basis of the same.
it took him an hour total
Half an hour inside the consulate and half waiting outside in the line.
his was a 2:30 p.m. interview .
and the questions asked were as follows
why going to usa? - to visit my younger son.
with whom will you stay ?
do you have other children in india ? - yes three all married
where are they living? - all in so n so city
is your son working with infosys ? - no , he is with such n such company, at this point papaji took out and showed the relevant docs
are u retired ? - yes
why will you not stay there forever?
how long will u stay there? - three months
note for elderly ppl : one has to stand outside in the line for a major part of your US visit. there did not seem any convenient toilet facilties outside. once inside there are restrooms and tea/coffee to drink n u can sit n rest.
first you have to go for the finger printing of the index finger of both hands and then stand in line for the interview.
final words :: the officer ended the interview with "all right sir you can go" - so papaji left the window and the next person approached. suddenly papji remembered and went back and asked " aapne kitne din kaa visaa diyaa hai ? " the officer replied " dus saal"
