Change of status; B1 to H-1

Do you have to appear for any interview in US during the process of changing status from B-1 to H-1 ?

No.

However, you only get H1 status in US. If you go out of the US, you will have to first get H1 visa stamped before being allowed to enter the US. You will have to go through interview at that time.
