  • Question about length of stay in US on visitor visa

    Hi,

A quick question on the answer for "Intended length of stay in US". My parents have one younger daughter who is studying in India. Would it be better if my mom puts 6 months in her form and my dad about 3 months, coz that way they will not be questioned on who will take care of the younger daughter when they are away? Can we put 6 months on teh form and when asked say something different. For e.g. my dad could say that he will come back early bcos he wants to take care of the younger daughter and also take care of the 2 properties in India. Well actually he will go back early for sure i know.

I am just trying to increase their chance of getting a visa.

    Thanks

No parent should say 6 months even if he/she intends to stay that long. It is not good strategy. Many people get denied for this reason alone. The officers may think that is too long.

The point is if you are granted a visa ,even a 3 month visa; you can still stay 6 months in US if the entry officer stamps your stay for 6 months (they mostly stamp 6 months for first time visiting parents). So, the duration of stay is determined at entry airport and not by the embassy. So both of them should say 3 months.
